Beginning a new draw, Milotay opened with a 6–0, 6–4 win that featured one flawless opening set and a composed finish after his opponent finally settled in. After sweeping the first six games in just 19 minutes, Milotay faced pressure at 3–4 in the second but survived with two sharp first serves and then broke immediately with a forehand return winner. “He starts fast and makes you chase the match,” said an event organizer courtside.
