In perhaps the finest display of shot-making of the month, Milotay defeated second-seeded Chris Talbot 6–7 (5–7), 7–5, 6–3 after nearly three hours of high-level tennis. Talbot edged the opening tiebreak with bigger serving, but Milotay responded by breaking from 4–5 down in the second with a fearless return game, then surged to a 4–1 lead in the third by taking the ball earlier and finishing points at net. “He was brave at the right times,” Talbot said afterward. “That’s what won it.”
