Milotay staged one of the tournament’s early comebacks, defeating veteran local entrant David Renaud 3–6, 6–4, 6–2 after dropping five of the first six games. Trailing 1–4 in the second set, Milotay began turning points around with higher, deeper topspin to Renaud’s backhand, then broke twice late in the set before racing to a 5–1 lead in the third. “I had him on the ropes early, but he changed the match with his patience,” Renaud said afterward.
