In a match many considered the first major test of his run, Milotay upset second-seeded Chris Talbot 7–6 (7–4), 4–6, 6–3 in two hours and 11 minutes. The opening set featured six straight holds before Talbot served for it at 5–4, only for Milotay to break back with two brilliant return games; after dropping the second, Milotay steadied in the decider by breaking at 2–1 and again at 5–3 with a run of four straight forehand winners. “He reads the court incredibly well and doesn’t rush when the match gets tight,” said tournament director Nancy Ellison.
