Showing tactical maturity well beyond his years, Milotay defeated Peter Lawson 6–3, 3–6, 6–1 after noticeably changing his target patterns midway through the match. After Lawson leveled the contest by dictating with his forehand, Milotay responded in the third set by pinning him wide on the ad side, then finishing points with short angled volleys, breaking in the second and fourth games to take complete control. “He’s thinking ahead and adjusting in real time,” said coach Mercer. “That’s the sign of a real competitor.”
