Opening a new weekend draw, Milotay advanced with a 6–1, 6–4 victory in which he won 10 of the first 11 games before his opponent mounted resistance. The opening set lasted just 23 minutes as Milotay kept balls deep and did not face a break point; in the second, he weathered a late push at 4–4 by producing back-to-back service winners and a forehand line winner to shut the door. “He stayed patient when a lot of young players would have rushed,” said his coach.
